Stephen W. Walker is the associate director of the Balkan Institute. He is also the Associate Director of the Action Council for Peace in the Balkans and the Director of the Council's grassroots program, the American Committee to Save Bosnia.A former United States diplomat, Mr. Walker resigned from the State Department in August 1993 in protest over U.S. policy toward Bosnia. At the time of his resignation, he was the State Department's Croatia desk officer and a member of the Balkan Conflict Group in the Office of East European Affairs.
Since his resignation, Mr. Walker has appeared many times on national television and radio, including CNN, "CBS This Morning," ABC's "Nightline and "Day One," National Public Radio, and the Larry King show, and has written articles for numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor and The Boston Globe.
